How Utah withholding works
Utah cut its income tax rate from 4.5% to 4.45% for 2026, and new withholding tables took effect for pay periods beginning on or after June 1, 2026. Withholding starts at 4.45% of the wages subject to federal withholding, then subtracts an allowance: $485 a year for a single filer or $970 for married. That allowance shrinks by 1.3% of wages above $9,348 ($18,696 married), so it is gone by about $46,700 of wages for a single filer.
Utah does not use state allowances or a separate Utah form. Withholding follows the filing status on your federal W-4, and heads of household use the single rates. Unemployment insurance is paid by employers only.
Minimum wage in Utah
Utah’s minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, the same as the federal minimum.
Your federal withholding and Form W-4
Federal withholding is separate from the state’s and depends on your Form W-4: your filing status, the Step 2 box if you have two jobs or both spouses work, and the Step 3 amount for children and other dependents. Pre-tax 401(k), 403(b) and cafeteria-plan health premiums come out before income tax is figured. If you are paid on a 1099 instead of a W-2, nothing is withheld; use the self-employment tax calculator and plan for estimated payments.
Questions
How much is taken out of a $60,000 paycheck in Utah?
For a single person paid every two weeks with no W-4 adjustments, about $193.08 federal income tax, $143.08 Social Security, $33.46 Medicare and $103.00 Utah income tax come out of each $2,307.69 paycheck, leaving about $1,835.07.

A flat 4.45%, down from 4.5% in 2025. Withholding tables using the new rate apply to pay periods beginning on or after June 1, 2026.
Does Utah have its own W-4?
No. Utah withholding uses your federal W-4 filing status and the wages subject to federal withholding.
Why is my paycheck different from this calculator?
Payroll systems round differently, and paychecks can include things this calculator leaves out: overtime, bonuses withheld at the flat supplemental rate, after-tax deductions, extra withholding on your W-4, or W-4 Step 4 adjustments.
