How Oklahoma withholding works
House Bill 2764 cut Oklahoma’s top rate from 4.75% to 4.5% for 2026 and set new brackets: 0% on the first $3,750 of taxable income ($7,500 joint), then 2.5%, 3.5% and 4.5%. With the standard deduction built in, withholding starts above $10,100 a year for single filers and $20,200 for married filers, after $1,000 for each allowance on Form OK-W-4, and is rounded to the nearest dollar. The law allows further 0.25-point cuts when revenue tests are met, with the first review in December 2026.
Without an OK-W-4, employers withhold as single with no allowances. Oklahoma unemployment tax does not come out of paychecks.
Minimum wage in Oklahoma
Oklahoma’s minimum wage is $7.25 an hour.
Your federal withholding and Form W-4
Federal withholding is separate from the state’s and depends on your Form W-4: your filing status, the Step 2 box if you have two jobs or both spouses work, and the Step 3 amount for children and other dependents. Pre-tax 401(k), 403(b) and cafeteria-plan health premiums come out before income tax is figured. If you are paid on a 1099 instead of a W-2, nothing is withheld; use the self-employment tax calculator and plan for estimated payments.
