Why there is no Nevada income tax on your paycheck
The Nevada Constitution says no income tax shall be levied on the wages or personal income of natural persons. The Nevada Department of Taxation confirms residents pay no state tax on salaries and wages.
Nevada does tax payroll, but it is the employer’s tax: the Modified Business Tax, 1.17% of wages above the first $50,000 for most businesses, and state law forbids deducting it from workers’ pay. Unemployment contributions cannot be taken from wages either.
Minimum wage in Nevada
Nevada’s minimum wage is $12.00 an hour, set in the state constitution from July 1, 2024. It rises only if the federal minimum wage goes above $12.
Your federal withholding and Form W-4
With no state income tax, federal withholding is the only income tax on your paycheck. It depends on your Form W-4: your filing status, the Step 2 box if you have two jobs or both spouses work, and the Step 3 amount for children and other dependents. Pre-tax 401(k), 403(b) and cafeteria-plan health premiums come out before income tax is figured. If you are paid on a 1099 instead of a W-2, nothing is withheld; use the self-employment tax calculator and plan for estimated payments.
Questions
How much is taken out of a $60,000 paycheck in Nevada?
For a single person paid every two weeks with no W-4 adjustments, about $193.08 federal income tax, $143.08 Social Security and $33.46 Medicare come out of each $2,307.69 paycheck, leaving about $1,938.07. There is no Nevada income tax to withhold.
Does Nevada have a state income tax?
No. The Nevada Constitution bans an income tax on wages and personal income, so employers withhold only federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare.
What is the Nevada Modified Business Tax?
A payroll tax on businesses, generally 1.17% of wages above the first $50,000. It is paid by the employer and cannot be deducted from employees’ wages.
What is Nevada’s minimum wage in 2026?
$12.00 an hour, the constitutional minimum since July 1, 2024.
Why is my paycheck different from this calculator?
Payroll systems round differently, and paychecks can include things this calculator leaves out: overtime, bonuses withheld at the flat supplemental rate, after-tax deductions, extra withholding on your W-4, or W-4 Step 4 adjustments.
