Georgia’s 2026 rate cut and withholding
House Bill 463 cut Georgia’s flat income tax rate from 5.19% to 4.99% for all of 2026, raised the standard deduction to $15,000 for single filers, heads of household and married filing separately, and $30,000 for married couples filing jointly, and raised the dependent deduction from $4,000 to $5,000. Employers could start withholding at 4.99% from May 11, 2026; pay before that was withheld at 5.19%, and the difference is settled on your 2026 return.
Withholding subtracts the standard deduction and $5,000 a year for each allowance on your Form G-4 (dependents on line 4 plus adjustments on line 5), then takes 4.99% of the rest. Married couples where both spouses work should mark status B, which uses the single-size deduction for each job. Without a G-4, your employer can use your W-4, or withhold as single with zero allowances.
Minimum wage in Georgia
Georgia’s own minimum wage is $5.15 an hour, but with limited exceptions the federal $7.25 applies. Employers cannot deduct Georgia unemployment insurance tax from employees’ pay.
Your federal withholding and Form W-4
Federal withholding is separate from the state’s and depends on your Form W-4: your filing status, the Step 2 box if you have two jobs or both spouses work, and the Step 3 amount for children and other dependents. Pre-tax 401(k), 403(b) and cafeteria-plan health premiums come out before income tax is figured. If you are paid on a 1099 instead of a W-2, nothing is withheld; use the self-employment tax calculator and plan for estimated payments.
Questions
How much is taken out of a $60,000 paycheck in Georgia?
For a single person paid every two weeks with no W-4 adjustments, zero G-4 allowances, about $193.08 federal income tax, $143.08 Social Security, $33.46 Medicare and $86.37 Georgia income tax come out of each $2,307.69 paycheck, leaving about $1,851.70.
What is the Georgia income tax rate for 2026?
A flat 4.99%, cut from 5.19% by House Bill 463 and retroactive to January 1, 2026. Employers could start withholding at the new rate on May 11, 2026.
What is the Georgia standard deduction for 2026?
$15,000 for single filers, heads of household and married filing separately, and $30,000 for married couples filing jointly. Each dependent adds a $5,000 deduction, up from $4,000.
How many allowances should I claim on Form G-4?
One for each dependent on line 4, plus any on line 5 from the worksheet for large deductions. Each allowance lowers Georgia withholding by $5,000 of wages a year.
Why is my paycheck different from this calculator?
Payroll systems round differently, and paychecks can include things this calculator leaves out: overtime, bonuses withheld at the flat supplemental rate, after-tax deductions, extra withholding on your W-4, or W-4 Step 4 adjustments.
