Why there is no Florida income tax on your paycheck
The Florida Constitution bars any tax on the income of residents who are natural persons, whether levied by the state or under its authority, beyond a narrow federal-credit exception. The Florida Department of Revenue says there are no personal income tax filing requirements.
Employers pay Florida reemployment (unemployment) tax on the first $7,000 of each worker’s wages, and the law forbids deducting it from pay. Florida does tax corporations: 5.5% of net income above a $50,000 exemption.
Minimum wage in Florida
Florida’s minimum wage rose to $15.00 an hour on September 30, 2026, from $14.00; the tipped direct wage rose to $11.98. The $15.00 rate runs through December 31, 2027, after which yearly inflation adjustments resume.
Your federal withholding and Form W-4
With no state income tax, federal withholding is the only income tax on your paycheck. It depends on your Form W-4: your filing status, the Step 2 box if you have two jobs or both spouses work, and the Step 3 amount for children and other dependents. Pre-tax 401(k), 403(b) and cafeteria-plan health premiums come out before income tax is figured. If you are paid on a 1099 instead of a W-2, nothing is withheld; use the self-employment tax calculator and plan for estimated payments.
Questions
How much is taken out of a $60,000 paycheck in Florida?
For a single person paid every two weeks with no W-4 adjustments, about $193.08 federal income tax, $143.08 Social Security and $33.46 Medicare come out of each $2,307.69 paycheck, leaving about $1,938.07. There is no Florida income tax to withhold.
Does Florida have a state income tax?
No. The Florida Constitution prohibits a personal income tax, so Florida employers withhold only federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare.
What is Florida’s minimum wage?
$15.00 an hour from September 30, 2026, up from $14.00. Tipped employees must be paid a direct wage of at least $11.98.
Do Florida employers take unemployment tax out of my pay?
No. Florida reemployment tax is paid by employers on the first $7,000 of wages, and state law forbids deducting it from employees’ pay.
Why is my paycheck different from this calculator?
Payroll systems round differently, and paychecks can include things this calculator leaves out: overtime, bonuses withheld at the flat supplemental rate, after-tax deductions, extra withholding on your W-4, or W-4 Step 4 adjustments.
