Arizona paycheck calculator for 2026

Arizona withholding works differently from most states: you choose a flat percentage of your pay on Form A-4, from 0.5% to 3.5%, and your employer withholds exactly that. Without an A-4, it is 2.0%. Enter your pay and pick your rate to see your take-home pay.

Choosing your Arizona withholding rate

Arizona’s income tax is a flat 2.5% of Arizona taxable income for 2023 and later years, but withholding does not try to match it exactly. On Form A-4 you choose 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%, 3.0% or 3.5% of your gross taxable wages, and you can add a fixed extra amount per paycheck. If you never file an A-4, your employer must withhold 2.0%.

You can also elect zero withholding if you expect to owe no Arizona tax, but that election has to be renewed by February 15 each year or your employer goes back to 2.0%.

The tax on your return is figured on income after deductions, so the right withholding rate depends on your situation. If you owed Arizona tax at filing time, pick a higher rate or add an extra amount; if you got a large refund, pick a lower one.

Your federal withholding and Form W-4

Federal withholding is separate from the state’s and depends on your Form W-4: your filing status, the Step 2 box if you have two jobs or both spouses work, and the Step 3 amount for children and other dependents. Pre-tax 401(k), 403(b) and cafeteria-plan health premiums come out before income tax is figured. If you are paid on a 1099 instead of a W-2, nothing is withheld; use the self-employment tax calculator and plan for estimated payments.

Questions

How much is taken out of a $60,000 paycheck in Arizona?

For a single person paid every two weeks with no W-4 adjustments, the default 2.0% Arizona rate, about $193.08 federal income tax, $143.08 Social Security, $33.46 Medicare and $46.15 Arizona income tax come out of each $2,307.69 paycheck, leaving about $1,891.92.

What is the Arizona income tax rate for 2026?

A flat 2.5% of Arizona taxable income, the rate since 2023. Withholding uses the percentage you choose on Form A-4 instead.

What Arizona withholding percentage should I choose?

It depends on your income and deductions. If you owed Arizona tax last year, choose a higher rate; if you got a large refund, choose a lower one. You can also add a fixed extra amount per paycheck.

What if I never filled out Form A-4?

Your employer has to withhold 2.0% of your gross taxable wages.

Why is my paycheck different from this calculator?

Payroll systems round differently, and paychecks can include things this calculator leaves out: overtime, bonuses withheld at the flat supplemental rate, after-tax deductions, extra withholding on your W-4, or W-4 Step 4 adjustments.
