Where’s my refund, Colorado? How to check your Colorado refund
Check a Colorado income tax refund in Revenue Online, the Department of Revenue’s online portal, using “Where’s My Refund”; it shows the same status information the department’s staff see, and you can check daily. Colorado says an e-filed return with direct deposit takes 3 to 5 weeks, and a paper return with a paper check up to 3 months.

How long a Colorado refund takes
Paper returns, paper checks, errors, extra review and moving without updating your address all slow a refund down; mail forwarding does not apply to refund and identity letters. If a check has not arrived after 45 days, call 303-238-7378 to have it reissued.
| How you filed | How long |
|---|---|
| E-file with direct deposit | 3 to 5 weeks |
| Paper return with a paper check | Up to 3 months |
| After approval, direct deposit | Up to 7 business days |
| After approval, paper check | Usually 7 to 10 business days, occasionally up to 45 days |
Identity verification and the Validation Key letter
If Colorado needs to confirm your identity, it mails a letter with a Validation Key. In Revenue Online, choose “Provide Validation Key” and enter your last name, the key and your refund amount within 30 days of the letter date; otherwise the return will not be processed. After 30 days, send a photo ID and a document with your name and address, with the letter, by email, fax or mail as the letter directs. As a fraud safeguard, the department can also switch a direct deposit to a mailed paper check.
When Colorado takes part of your refund
A refund is first applied to any debt owed to the state, and can be intercepted for child or spousal support, overpaid unemployment or disability benefits, student loans, court fines and restitution, parking tickets and other government debts, or sent to the IRS for federal taxes. If you think an intercept is wrong, contact the agency that claimed it. If a joint refund was taken for one spouse’s debt, the other spouse can file an injured spouse claim with Form 8379.
TABOR credit and the PTC rebate
Colorado’s TABOR refund for 2025 was paid as a refundable sales tax credit on the 2025 return filed in 2026: $19 to $59 for single filers and $38 to $118 for joint filers, depending on income. Whether there will be one on 2026 returns has not been published.
The Property Tax, Rent and Heat (PTC) rebate has its own lookup in Revenue Online, using your Social Security number and the rebate amount or a letter ID. It is paid on a schedule; claims processed after December 10, 2026 are paid in full about 10 weeks after receipt by direct deposit, or 12 weeks by check. Amended income tax returns are filed on Form DR 0104X.
