$50 off late tax filing
Behind on a tax return? Book with USTAXX by December 31, 2026 and take $50 off our fee for preparing it. In person in Naperville, by phone or by Zoom.
What counts as late filing
- Your 2025 return, if it was not filed by its due date or extended due date. For most individuals and calendar-year corporations that was April 15, 2026, or October 15, 2026 with an extension; for partnerships and S corporations, March 16, 2026, or September 15, 2026.
- A return for any earlier year you never filed.
- Federal and state income tax returns, for individuals and for businesses.
We are an IRS Authorized e-file provider. The IRS accepts e-filed returns for the current tax year and the two before it; returns for older years are prepared for filing on paper.

Why it is worth filing now
If you owe tax, the failure-to-file penalty is 5% of the unpaid tax for each month or part of a month the return is late, up to 25%. Filing stops it from growing, even if you cannot pay everything yet.
If you are owed a refund, you generally have three years from the return's due date to claim it. After that, the IRS keeps it.
Our guide covers the rest: how far back to file, what happens when the IRS files for you, and how to pay back taxes. Unfiled tax returns: how to catch up
